RE: Luxury RVing in the NW

While we're in Newport, OR, the South Beach State Park campground is one of the nicest anywhere (ANYWHERE), and the Pacific Ocean on the Oregon Coast can't be beat. In all fairness, I'm there now and a camprgound host. What can I say? But do elaborate just a bit. There's so many different strokes and folks.

RE: Roof mount sat dish- share tips & tricks?

The Winegard Trav'ler Slimline dish is not an in-motion dish. I would recommend that the first thing you do is survey the spot your are given. Have a compass in your pocket and know how to use it to determine where the satellite dish is going to have to be pointed. If there is a question about trees possibly being in the way, then yes, activate the dish the first thing and make sure the place you are stopped will allow satellite acquisition. If not you can move more easily without having put the jacks down or made other connections.

RE: Is a Gen-turi too heavy?

James (RamblinFever), What is the pipe, and how do you stow it for travel? Your installation looks 1st class. I don't have the rain gutters or I would ask for more details on that, and the length of pipe would be completely unworkable for me, unless I could come up with some kind of under-the-house attachment. Thanks for the pictures... great look.

RE: Coopers?

I put on a set of 8R19.5 tires about 2 years ago. Cost about 1200.00 out the door in WA State, and have about 10,000 miles so far. They have been very good in my opinion.

RE: How Do You Know If They Need Help?

Chris, This reminds me of a story about when I was on a motorcycle vacation trip a few years ago. I passed another bike couple who were on the side of the road. The gal was holding up a sign that read "Out Of Gas." Because I always have a gallon of gas in the motorcycle, I pulled off and took it back to them. They were so releived I could do that. The point being that because they had the sense to do the sign and hold it up, they got what they needed in a very short period of time. If it were me and I had to depend on a good heart to stop for me, I might try doing the same thing. Otherwise, flashers and standing off the side of the road looking like I needed help would be something.

RE: Help with Radiator Replacement on 90 454 Winnebago

CHECK THE HARMONIC BALANCER - the lowest pully hub. I pulled the radiator and had it recored. After getting that all back together, I decided to have the fan clutch replaced, then the belts, and during that belt replacement proceedure, it was discovered that the harmonic balancer was about the fly apart. (That can happen, and it isn't pretty when it does.) We had to pull the radiator out again. Well, the second most important point I'm trying to make is to do all that stuff at the same time - while the radiator is out. Anthing mentioned that you have the money for is good to do.

RE: Striped tool bar under/covered by regular tool bar?

Do you know about the other portals to Open Roads Forum. Yesterday and earlier today, I could not work through the RV.Net portal, but had no trouble through either of the others (except Good Sam, which I don't use.) Alternate "portals" to the RV.net Open Roads Forums Tom Hi, Tom. Yes, I know about the other portals. I gave up because I was annoyed that I had typed a bunch of stuff and upon sending it, I got a back the "page not found" dialog. Of course, when that happens, my typing is all lost. I didn't have quite enough ambition to do it over again at the moment. But thanks for the link. I'll use them sometime. Brian

RE: need help splitting sat. signal

Take the LNB off the dish and you will see a extra jack for another cable. This would go to the 2nd receiver. It does not need to be a dual LNB to have this feature. Almost correct - but a "Dual LNB" is one LNB device that has two coax connectors. "Multiple LNBs" is another story. Everyone is giving you the correct information, actually. But you might tell us what kind of receivers you have and if you are using them both at the same time. For me, I have a DVR for standard definition DirecTv. It does require two coaxes, which I have. But it also has two A/V outputs on the back of it which send A/V simultaneously out both sets. That's great! I have two TVs hooked up to the same receiver. But I'm single and only need one at a time.

RE: Roof Mount Satellite dish

Donna, If you could live without High Definition TV, your complexities, annoyances, and expences would be reduced considerably. Yes a roof-top dish would make life a lot easier if you're always in the clear. If expense is not an issue, then surely you should go for the high-order dish. I can't recommend which (Winegard or Motosat), just wish you luck in your persuit.

RE: Air conditioner/roof leak

Check the bolts first. Don't over-tighten them, but I'll bet you need to take a turn on all of them. If that fixes the problem, you can either worry about it some more and replace the gasket, or be satisfied that it's ok for another few years. A standard recommendation and maintenance proceedure is to tighten those bolts occasionally. I've done that to my 22 year old (almost 3 years to me) airconditioners, and it fixed a leak in the rear one. I'm going to replace gaskets some time, I suppose, but I'm not going to loose sleep over it - mostly because there is no more dripping on me when I'm in bed.

RE: Portable Winegard Auto Dish

The possibility of it being stolen is a good thought. I think it would be just about the easiest and criminally rewarding thing to steal - especially after it gets recognizable. And I almost never lock my MH door. That said, for one who only uses one coax lead-in, the "twin" coax I use could be adapted to send power up the second coax - making taking it down and stowage easier. I use both coaxes for my DVR, so I'd need a threesome to do what I propose. I really think it's a great product though.

RE: RF interference from Freedom charger in Ham Radio

Not being knowledgeable on sine wave inverters, I went and Googled them and found a neat link that explains some differences between inverters. A very interesting read, to be sure... TB While this is "interesting," we're discussing chargers here. It just so happens that my charger is also an inverter, which is not causing any of the problems I am talking about. Thanks. I did get the remote controller and have it installed. It does an easy thing to fix the problem - turn off the charger, and noise be gone. Great - and it looks nice. Thanks again, all. Brian

RE: In tank fuel pump

Billy, I've had a discussion here on this subject recently and although I have a Chevy motor - 454 w/carb, I think our systems are pretty similar. It seemed to be the concensus that there's a very good possibility of an externally-added fuel pump installed near the gas tank, working just fine. The question is if it will be able to pull gas through the fuel pump in the tank. And of course, those kinds of fuel pumps push gas better than they can pull it, so as close the tank as possible would be best. I think I would venture the expense and effort and hope for the best. Certainly the cost and complexity of doing so would be far less than replacing the one in the tank. Hope this helps your thinking on this. And I really think Napa Auto Parts ought to have something that would replace you in-tank pump is it has to be done. ((EDIT)) I should have posted the link to my discussion I mentioned. Here it is.

RE: Striped tool bar under/covered by regular tool bar?

I tried responding to this yesterday and it wouldn't go through - so I gave up. You can move the task bar by just pointing at it, left click (hold down) and move it to the top or sides. Then you should see if there really is something under there. Let us know.

RE: Sold MH UPDATE buyer will not complete the deal. UPDATE

Even family, friends, and otherwise seemingly good reputable people can cause us grief over financial transactions like these. It can sure make a cynic out of a trusting person. We're all pulling for you. And of course, as the previous story has illustrated, things could be worse for you.

RE: Best Mattress

If money is not an issue, you might go to a Mattress Factory and try out a Latex Foam Mattress. They come in different densities and firmness. One of those can be made just for you in an hour or two, and be down the road.

RE: 8R 19.5 tires Central Texas, best place to go...

In my opinion there's not a good reason for you to try to put different size tires on your motorhome. Cooper makes a very good 8R19.5 tire. I had 6 new ones put on about 2 years ago for just a bit over $1200. Many miles down the road, and I like them very much.

RE: RF interference from Freedom charger in Ham Radio

John, I may have gotten us off track a bit. My complaint is with the charger portion of the Xantrex Freedom unit I have. It is with the inverter turned off and the charger on - which is the normal mode when plugged into shore power - that I get the interference. I haven't tried pulling the plug and listening to the inverter. I'll bet it's as you say, pretty noisy also. But thanks for that bit of info. If I had something better, I wouldn't have anything to gripe about. ((EDIT)) Well, I just did that - flipped off the pedistal with the inverter on. Interestingly, I can only hear the inverter just a bit down in the 160 M area, and by 3.5 MHz, it's very quiet - can't tell inverter noise from the normal radio background noise. That was interesting. Oh well... go figure.

RE: RF interference from Freedom charger in Ham Radio

Well, I shoud have know better. After getting another refusal to send the remote panel to an address other than that on my CC, I finally woke up and decided to try PPL Motorhomes Parts. They have it, and for a better price by far than any of the other places that advertise and sell it. And, I've done business with them several times in the past. I just don't know what I was (not) thinking. Brian
